After that devastating morning, the most terrifying thing to me, living so far from New York, was the silence in the skies. We live in Dallas, under one of the busiest air traffic patterns in the country. After that morning of 9-11, our skies were silent. I've never seen such a big empty sky. I went out at night, looking up at the skies, seeing only stars, hearing only the breeze. The next morning was the same. A beautiful, but empty and silent sky. Finally after 3 days, the welcome sight of our courageous planes in the sky again.

The Silence
